Mid Asian ibex

 

The Mid Asian ibex is spread throughout all the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. Therefore, Kyrgyzstan is considered to be one of the best –if not the best– destinations in the world for the premium quality Mid Asian ibex hunts. It is a well known fact that some of the biggest trophy entries in the SCI record book come from Kyrgyz Tian Shan. Every year a number of exceptional trophies are still collected here by trophy hunters that come from all over the world.  Ibex is hunted for intensively in the areas south and east of lake Issyk-Kul, on the border to China and Tajikistan

 

How to arrive to the area and camp;  Turkish Airlines has daily flights from most European airports to Istanbul and from Istanbul, non-stop flights to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
There are other airlines too, non-stop flights from European cities to Bishkek. After arrival 14 thru 6 hours drive including riding horses for couple of hours) is required to reach the areas and main camp.
For the entry of Kyrgyzstan, a valid passport and visa are necessary and European hunters can take this visa upon their arrival.  

 

Season & weather & accommodation; The hunting season runs from August 15th tru  the end of November. Although rutting season is from mid October to the middle of December , the weather conditions tend to change by mid November and deep snow can have a big  negative effect on the hunt.
Accommodation is in comfortable camps, with very good cooking. Since ibex normally lives  in higher areas (3.000 to 4.500 m) and will come down to lower  regions only during winter, the hunt could be physically demanding. Although any Kyrgyz hunt involves extensive horse riding, good physical condition is as necessary as the ability of placing a precise shot even over long distances. To make the hunt easier, sure footed and sturdy Kyrgyz horses are being used on this hunt.

 

Hunting Areas & Altitude & Method;  Hunting areas are at the altitude of 3000- 4500 mt and the Ibex can be hunted at any mountain located North of country but mainly near by China border, at Isky Kull and Naryn Regions.
Main camp are usually located at  3000-3500 mt. The hunters spend  long  hours on horse back to reach the heart of the hunting area which may lay at the altitude of 4000-4500mt. Last stalk on food may be required.

Day by Day itinerary;  Mid Asian Ibex hunt requires 7 day-hunting  although a hunter in good shape with a little bit of luck can complete it in 4- 5- days.  A tentative itinerary for Mid Asian Ibex could be as follows;
Day 01...........Arrive in Bishkek, custom handling, (depending on arrival time) and transfer to hotel .
Day 02...........Drive and ride horse to  Area to the area (14-15 hours)
Day 03-09......Hunt Mid Asian Ibex
Day 10...........Drive back to Bishkek .

 

Trophy treatment and Shipment ; The skin of the animal is carefully treated. Ears and lips are turned and salted and the scull is boiled and cleaned properly. Later, the trophy is carefully packed for shipment. After all papers are prepared which are necessary for the shipment, the shipment is sent to the address that is provided. Hunters might as well take their trophies home with them if there is enough time for the trophy preparation after the hunt.  Receiving the trophies could take couple of months (not longer) and shipment cost is around US$750 -800/each animal depending on the address.

 

Kyrgyzstan visa process; European and US citizens can get their visa upon arrival to Bishkek. Hunters only need their valid passports and 2 passport size photos.

 

The price and conditions; The price of Mid Asian Ibex is at US$ 6.900- any size.
The price covers custom handling, hunting organization up to mentioned days, one trophy fee of mentioned specie, hunting license, gun import permit, area fees, transfers from/to Bishkek, full board accommodation in the hunting area, interpreter and local guide.

The price does not cover international & domestic air fares, visa cost, trophy shipment, insurance, gratuities, hotel accommodation before / after the hunt, personal  expenses.   Observer fee - US$2,000

 

Booking and payment; A 25% deposit is required on booking and the rest be paid 2 months before the hunt.
 If you would like to cancel your hunt 6 months before the trip, the deposit is refunded with $500 less and if cancellation occurs between 6 to 2 months before the trip, full deposit is forfeited. If cancellation occurs 2 months or less before the trip, full cost of the trip is forfeited. In case of no success (except missed  shots & wounding the animal), 20 % is refunded.

 

Marco Polo in Kyrgyzstan

 

Kyrgyzstan is considered to be one of the best destinations in the world for the premium quality Marco Polo. The typical Marco Polo Argali trophy runs between 49-50 inches with occasional 60 inches trophy taken. Also Mid-Asian Ibex can be harvested as additional trophy; is the largest Ibex in the world with the horn length up to 60 inches. In November the temperature falls down to 5-14 F/ -10-15 C and during nighttime to - 4 to + 5 F / -15 –20 degrees.

Sheep are generally located in remote country at 12000 feet / 4000 m. Once the trophy is located you complete your stalk on foot. Physical condition is an important factor for stalking. Long range shooting, 200 to 500 yards/m is normal.
